Photos from the field experiment behind Memory, Expectations, and Climate Adaptation (with Frank van Oort). In the lowland plains west of Mount Elgon, our team of local enumerators, run with our implementing partner The Ugandan Field Lab, surveyed 686 smallholder farmers before the 2026 growing season. Farmers allocate ten physical tokens across images of the same maize field, from extreme drought to severe flooding, expressing full probability distributions over past and future weather without requiring literacy.
